Jets NT Jenkins will return for training camp

The New York Jets nose tackle Kris Jenkins recently ruled out both possibilities of putting on Minnesota Vikings jersey or quitting football. The 31-year-old veteran is still rehabbing from a surgery on his torn ACL and has been invited by the Jets head coach Rex Ryan to participate in the team’s training camp.

"This is the first year that retirement really crossed my mind," Jenkins told The New York Times. "You hear people talk about the end, but you start feeling those emotions, and it’s a trip, honestly. You have anxiety issues sometimes. Look, I’ve been playing football since I was 8. I’m getting tired. Like, I’m not tired of it yet but I’m starting to get tired. The biggest thing was Rex. If it had been any other coach, (2009) probably would have been my last year."

Jenkins also said that he was feeling pretty well and was confident that he would be able to endure the hard work in training camp by Aug. 1. Having been wearing Brett Favre jersey in most of the offseason, Jenkins said he was glad that he could finally wear back his own team uniform to play with his teammates again.

Yankees manager Girardi to teach Jets QB Sanchez how to slide

It was the New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan’s genuine idea in purpose of helping quarterback Mark Sanchez to learn how to slide and avoid potential injuries. Whether it works or not, it has made the rookie quarterback even more famous in his very first year of wearing NFL jersey- whoever has been taught by a manager who guided the New York Yankees to its 27th World Series title? Only Sanchez.

“He’s too valuable and he needs to understand that we need him out there and people are going to take shots at him if he doesn’t start sliding,” Ryan said of Sanchez. “I really did want to make an emphasis to Mark and get the best guy that we can in the area.”

He was honest enough to admit the purpose of emphasis on Sanchez, who injured his left knee while being tackled at the end of Sunday’s 17-6 win over the Carolina Panthers. Sanchez said he had always slid headfirst just as he does while playing baseball.

Wearing a brace on his left leg that hampers his ability to slide on that side, Sanchez has to learn how to hook his right leg correctly, and how to protect the ball while sliding, under Girardi’s instructions. Girardi taught him in the way he teaches Derek Jeter and had Sanchez slide 10-15 times on a mat.

Why Girardi? Actually Ryan said he had no idea who was going to show up from the Yankees organization after he put in a call to Yankees president Randy Levine, who decided to send Joe Girardi to help the Jets. It is a really good choice to Ryan, as Girardi had a memorable slide on an RBI triple in Game 6 of the 1996 World Series in a win over the Atlanta Braves.

Jets WR Clowney said he was misunderstood by Coach Ryan

After being benched by Coach Rex Ryan for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans, the New York Jets wide receiver David Clowney said Wednesday that there was a minor misunderstanding between him and the coach as Ryan did not see his entire comment on Twitter.

Shortly after the Jets winning over the New England Patriots in Week 2, Clowney posted a message on twitter, in response to a friend asking why he didn’t see him on the field much during the game. The message said: “1 play in the 1st Half, 4 plays in the 2nd half … A bit disappointed about my playing time but very happy and satisfied about the win.” It was followed by a subsequent tweet saying “My team always comes first so I’ma just keep grinding.” And Clowney said Ryan only saw the first half of the message.

However, Ryan said that the tweet message was just one of the reasons that caused him to make the decision of benching Clowney for last Sunday’s game. And Clowney, who has no catches this season in his No. 87 jets jersey, said he was informed by Ryan a few days before the game that he’d be inactive. He was not fined for his actions and still had no idea who sent his tweet message to Ryan.
