Former New Orleans Saints free agent running back Mike Bell is to put on the Philadelphia Eagles jersey soon as he has received a one-year deal from the Eagles. According to the latest reports, Saints are likely not to match the offer and thus the Eagles will not have to compensate the Saints for signing away Bell.
Bell is turning 27 years old next month, at the right age to reach career goals as a running back. His main role in the Eagles will be backup to LeSean McCoy, who became the leading role in backfield after former All-Pro Brian Westbrook was released last month.
After being signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2006, Bell ran for 677 yards and eight TDs as a rookie. However, he was switched to fullback the next season and had less playing time. He was released by the Broncos in July 2008 and was soon invited to join the Houston Texans’ training camp but unfortunately suffered a hamstring injury that caused him to be waived a few weeks later. He joined the Saints during the 2008 regular season but could hardly give much impression among other star running backs including Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas and Deuce McAllister. His best time came in last season’s opener when he ran for a career-high 143 yards as backup to starter Bush while playing against the Detroit Lions. During the remaining games of the season, he ran for 75 or more yards for only three more times.

Saints QB Brees would like to be teammates with LT again
The New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and free agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson have been friends since they were at high school and was teammates in San Diego Chargers from 2001 to 2006. As Tomlinson was released by the Chargers, Brees said that they could be teammates again in New Orleans.
The leader of the Super Bowl champion team said via his Twitter page that he would like to get Tomlinson in the black and gold Saints jersey, and some believe that there are indeed such possibility as it has been rumored that the Saints may trade running back Reggie Bush and another running back Pierre Thomas is to be a restricted free agent.
However, there are also doubts. Running backs Mike Bell and Lynell Hamilton are likely to stay on Saints’ roster and would be cheap short-yardage/goal-line options. They are not only cheaper but also much younger than Tomlinson.

Student got into troubles for wearing Colts jersey in La. School
While the whole Louisiana has been in high emotions to celebrate the New Orleans Saints’ first Super Bowl appearance, some people living there happened to support the opponent team, Indianapolis Colts, and they may have to face some kinds of troubles if they show their supports publicly when there are Saints fans all around.
A Louisiana high school student Brandon Frost now knows that. The 17-year-old boy claimed that he was sent home for wearing the Colts jersey on the day the principal encouraged students to wear black and gold Saints jerseys. The boy and his family got so angry that they contacted the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana to protect their right to free speech.
A Livingston Parish School Board member said Frost wasn’t sent home, but was told he couldn’t wear the blue jersey at school, and the school uniform had been relaxed only for black and gold resembling the Saints jerseys. The principal Frost referred to, Principal Steven Vampran refused to comment but has acknowledged that he should not have said “‘If you like Indiana so much, why don’t you go back?” to the student.
Frost’s father said even his son was wearing the Colts jersey Louisiana fans should also be proud of the player Frost supports- Colts running back Joseph Addai, a graduate of Louisiana State University.

Saints looked healthy with key starters returning from injury
Starting tight end Jeremy Shockey, starting safety Darren Sharper and starting linebacker Jonathan Vilma all participated in the New Orleans Saints’ practice Wednesday in preparation for this weekend’s Super Bowl game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Each of the three starters has been bothered by knee problems but they still managed to play in the NFC championship game. During Wednesday’s practice, they all worked in all the key drills, leaving backup running back Lynell Hamilton the only injured who sat out the practice with a walking boot protecting his left ankle.
“I think we’re ahead of schedule with just about everything we’re trying to get done,” Coach Sean Payton said. “Even the buses and everything are running on time or ahead of schedule.”
Payton conducted a 30-minute walkthrough with every unit, from special teams to specialized offensive formations, plus several minutes of turnover drills just as they did in training camp. And Payton believed that having a little of hat training-camp mentality could help get his players ready for the last but biggest game.
So it seems that all the available New Orleans players will put on their Saints jerseys for the Super Bowl, with enough confidence to beat the Colts.

Saints WR Moore is going to play Saturday game
The New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore is hoping that he would be able to put on his No. 16 Saints jersey and play this Saturday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals after missing eight of the last nine games because of a series of ankle and hamstring injuries.
The Saints would like to use the shifty, 5-9, 190-pound Moore a lot like the New England Patriots use Wes Welker and the Dallas Cowboys use Miles Austin. That could be why the team has not placed Moore on injured reserve by so far. Plus quarterback Drew Brees has great trust and confidence in Moore, who became his go-to guy last year. And Moore showed his value well in Week 6 by catching six passes for 78 yards and a touchdown in a high-profile showdown with the New York Giants, who remained unbeaten till the game ended with Saints’ 48-27 victory.
Other Saints who were still dealing with injuries but are possible to play Saturday’s game include cornerback Malcolm Jenkins and tailback Pierre Thomas. Saints starting DE McCray was arrested for DUI
The New Orleans Saints defensive end Bobby McCray may lose his driving license for driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a breathalyzer test. He was arrested early Tuesday after being stopped by an officer who saw him speeding. The officer booked him into Orleans Parish Prison on charges of driving while intoxicated, speeding, careless operation of a motor vehicle and not having his vehicle registration with him.
Without resisting arrest, however, McCray refused to take a breathalyzer test. And according to local laws, a person suspected of driving drunk in Louisiana and refusing the breath test automatically loses his license for one year.
McCray was released on his own recognizance around 7 a.m. And he may still be able to play this Sunday’s season finale against the Carolina Panthers.
Being picked in the seventh round out of Florida in 2004, McCray spent his first four seasons in Jacksonville Jaguars jersey and joined the Saints in March 2008 after signing a five-year contract. He took the starting job after defensive end Charles Grant was injured and has had totally 37 tackles (26 solo), the second-highest total of his career, and a club-high six sacks.

Colts on their way to 16-0
As the NFL’s lone unbeaten team, the Indianapolis Colts will receive even more attention as more people are expecting to see how they approach their final two games of the regular season and to make it 16-0.
After last Thursday night’s 35-31 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Colts had a long weekend of rest and relaxation, wearing back their NFL jerseys for practice till Monday. The New Orleans Saints’ loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night left the Colts to be the NFL’s only spotless team.
“Obviously, it’s an honor for our team to have an opportunity to stand alone at this point,” Coach Jim Caldwell said Monday, “but the fact of the matter is that it is a real task to maintain this position, as well. I think our guys are certainly up to that challenge.”
The Colts have been the third franchise who has reached 14-0 in the regular season, joining the Miami Dolphins who went on to 17-0 and won the Super Bowl, and the ’07 Patriots, who were 16-0, won two playoff games, then fell in the Super Bowl to the Giants.

Saints remain unbeaten after 30-20 victory over Panthers
Another team became the New Orleans Saints’ springboard to the playoff. The Carolina Panthers lost to the unbeaten team by 20-30 on Sunday and had to admit it’s a hopeless season with a 3-5 start.
It is absolutely contrary to the 8-0 Saints, who are off to the best start in club history. While it was Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme’s first loss in the Louisiana Superdome since he put on Panthers jersey, it was just Saints quarterback Drew Brees’ another win.
But the Panthers still set a “first” for the Saints any way-they did not allow the Saints’ defense to intercept a pass. Nevertheless, the Saints still won; even though the Panthers blew a 17-3 lead in the first half. The Saints soon caught up. Devery Henderson’s 63-yard gain on a short slant pass set up Pierre Thomas’ 10-yard scoring run and cut the Panthers’ lead to 17-13; then by Robert Meachem’s leaping catch and run for a 54-yard score, the Saints tied it at 20; with John Carney’s 40-yard field goal, the Saints went ahead on 23-20; and in the last 30 seconds of the second quarter, Brees’ 45-yard completion to Marques Colston and a roughing-the-passer penalty gave the Saints a first down at the Carolina 7. The Panthers became the eighth team failing in challenging the Saints.

Raiders may compete with Saints for OLB Brooks?
According to National Football Post, it is possible that the New Orleans Saints will have competition with the Oakland Raiders for free agent linebacker Derrick Brooks.
The New Orleans has been in their pursuit of Brooks since news broke that veteran Mark Simoneau will undergo surgery to repair a torn triceps. Since Simoneau missed all last season while recovering from back surgery, it was no wonder that the Saints changed their target to the 11-time Pro Bowler Brooks, in hope of bringing some help to their defense.
As for the Raiders, it is still unknown how much they are interested in the veteran linebacker, who spent his whole 14-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. At the moment, the Raiders have Ricky Brown at middle linebacker, Thomas Howard to be the starter and rookie Slade Norris to replace injured Jon Alston.
